Setup wizard
The setup wizard runs the first time you open Media → Plume after activation. It has three steps and saves your progress as you move forward.
Step 1. Connect your storage provider
Pick a provider. Plume then offers quick connect: you paste one token, key or line of output, and Plume creates or picks the bucket, sets it up for public media, fills in every field and runs an upload test.
| Provider | What you paste | What Plume sets up |
|---|---|---|
| Cloudflare R2 | An API token. Open Cloudflare opens the token page with the R2 permission already filled in. | Finds your account, creates the bucket, sets CORS and turns on the r2.dev public URL. |
| Backblaze B2 | An application key for all buckets with read and write access. | Finds the region, creates a public bucket and makes a new key that can only reach it. The key you paste is not saved. |
| Wasabi | A root or admin access key. | Creates the bucket and a user that can only reach it. The key you paste is not saved. |
| DigitalOcean Spaces | An API token with the spaces_key create, read and delete scopes. |
Creates the Space and a key that can only reach it. The token you paste is not saved. |
| MinIO, S3-compatible | The endpoint and an access key. | Lists or creates the bucket and allows public reads. |
| Amazon S3 | The line printed by a command you run in AWS CloudShell. | The command creates the bucket and an IAM user that can only reach it. |
| Google Cloud Storage | The line printed by a command you run in Google Cloud Shell. | The command creates the bucket, a service account that can only reach it and an HMAC key. |
If your token or key can see more than one account or bucket, the wizard lets you pick one. If the provider does not allow a public bucket, the wizard says so and leaves Serve media from remote storage off.
r2.dev links are rate limited by Cloudflare. Before going live, connect a custom domain to the bucket in Cloudflare and enter it in step 2.
Enter keys by hand
Select Enter keys by hand below the form to fill in the fields yourself. The form changes with the provider.
| Field | Notes |
|---|---|
| Provider | One of the providers listed in this documentation, or Local (debug only) for testing. |
| Bucket | The bucket or Space name. It must already exist. |
| Region | Shown for providers that need one. |
| Path prefix (optional) | A folder inside the bucket, for example media. |
| Access key | The access key ID from your provider. |
| Secret key | The secret from your provider. |
| R2 Account ID or custom endpoint | Cloudflare R2 only. |
| Custom endpoint | S3-compatible storage and MinIO only. |
| Session token (optional) | For temporary STS credentials. |
Provider pages explain where each value lives:
- Amazon S3
- Cloudflare R2
- Google Cloud Storage
- Backblaze B2
- DigitalOcean Spaces
- Wasabi
- MinIO
- S3-compatible
Select Continue to delivery when the form is complete. If a required field is empty, the wizard stops with the message “Please complete the storage step before continuing” and lists what is missing.
Already have a config file?
If you exported a config from another site, you can import it in this step instead of typing everything. See config export and import. The file contains your keys, so handle it like a password.
Step 2. Choose delivery behavior
This step controls what happens after files are in storage.
| Option | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Enable Plume after setup | Turns offloading on. Stored as enabled. |
| Serve media from remote storage | Rewrites media URLs to point at storage. Stored as serve_from_storage. |
| Use path-style requests | Sends https://endpoint/bucket/key instead of https://bucket.endpoint/key. Stored as use_path_style_endpoint. |
| Custom delivery domain (optional) | A CDN or custom domain for public URLs. Stored as custom_domain. |
Select Continue to review. Quick connect has already tested an upload. If you entered keys by hand, use Test connection in step 1, or run the check later from Tools → Connectivity → Test Connection.
Step 3. Review and finish
The last step shows a checklist of what you entered. If another offload plugin is active, it also shows a Conflict review with a checkbox you must tick to confirm you have handled it. Running two offload plugins at once can conflict and break media URLs.
Select Finish setup and unlock dashboard. Plume saves your settings and shows “Setup complete. Your dashboard is now unlocked and your storage preferences have been saved.”
After the wizard
- Go to Tools and select Test Connection.
- Read Offloading media to see when new uploads move.
- Run a bulk migration for existing files.
Tip: Settings are not locked in. Everything in the wizard can be changed later under Settings.
